A vendor representative said the contract calls for like‑for‑like unit types but added: "it is our full intention to electrify and utilize the heat pump units," and described a forthcoming design and submittal process the district will approve before ordering equipment. The vendor stated a kickoff was tentatively scheduled for Dec. 8 and that construction work for some scopes could begin in spring; Dr. Halpern said a district completion target for the overall scope is 2027.
Board members asked about unit tonnage, whether gas rooftop packaged units would be replaced with heat pumps, and any California Division of the State Architect (DSA) reviews required for library installations. The vendor said replacements would generally match the existing package style and noted the district will have final sign‑off on technical specifications.
The board moved, seconded and voted to approve the agreement. The student advisory vote recorded "Aye." No roll‑call tally of individual board votes was read into the record during this segment.
The contract documents and vendor submittals that the board will act on during implementation will determine the final equipment selections and timing. The district said it will return finalized design documents to board staff and indicated phased work will allow some replacements to move faster than DSA‑reviewed library projects.
