District recommends Panorama for SEL data and proposes Ukeru de-escalation for early learners

Summary
Assistant Superintendent Laura Erlenbaugh recommended consolidating climate and SEL data onto Panorama Education and proposed Ukeru, a hands-off de-escalation system using blocking pads for K–5, while phasing out CPI and keeping Handle With Care for older students; staff asked for authority to order pads for extended-school-year use and pledged Spanish-language training.
Assistant Superintendent for Student Services Laura Erlenbaugh told the curriculum committee that the district is recommending Panorama Education as a single, integrated platform to collect and analyze school climate and social-emotional learning data, replacing the current mix of SatchelPULSE and the state 5Essentials survey to reduce fragmentation and improve disaggregation and dashboarding.
"The recommendation before the board is to transition to Panorama Education," Erlenbaugh said, noting Panorama’s ability to consolidate student, staff and family perception data and align survey questions with district strategic priorities.
Erlenbaugh also proposed adding Ukeru, a hands-off de-escalation system that uses physical blocking pads so staff do not need to go hands-on with very young learners. She said Ukeru is intended for early learners through fifth grade, with Handle With Care as the primary system for grades 6–12 and CPI phased out as the district implements the new approach. Erlenbaugh said staff plan to offer training in Spanish and that the district would seek permission to order pads so they can be used during extended-school-year programming.
Why it matters: The Panorama recommendation affects how the district monitors climate and SEL trends across schools and groups; adopting Ukeru would change behavior-management tools and training for staff working with young children. Erlenbaugh framed Ukeru as an interim, low-touch option that may reduce the need for physical management when students escalate.
Questions raised: Committee members asked how the new systems would integrate with existing training and which programs would be retained; Erlenbaugh said the district would phase out CPI and maintain Handle With Care for older students, and confirmed plans to provide Spanish-language training resources.
Next steps: Staff requested authority to order Ukeru pads in time for training and use in extended-school-year programming and recommended moving to Panorama to consolidate survey administration and reporting.
