Lexington County Council unanimously approved a contract with Motorola Solutions totaling $2,710,354 to replace 32 aging radio consoles used by the county’s primary and backup 9-1-1 centers.
The Health & Human Services committee recommended the purchase. A committee representative told council the contract amount "is $2,710,354, and this will cover the cost to replace 32 radio consoles that will reach end of life in 2030." Council members asked whether neighboring municipalities could participate in or receive the same pricing; a communications staff member replied that several municipalities use incompatible console brands and vendors, so a coordinated purchase would not be feasible without compatible equipment.
Council’s vote authorized the contract as presented; staff will coordinate procurement and implementation steps with public-safety communications personnel. No municipal participation in the county contract was promised on the record, and staff noted compatibility issues remain a barrier.
