Lexington County Council accepts $2.125M state site grant and approves purchase of about 202.8 acres on Southbound Road

Lexington County Council voted unanimously to accept a $2,125,000 Locate South Carolina site enhancement grant and to approve a contract to purchase roughly 202.79 acres on Southbound Road for economic development.

Councilwoman Kerig, reporting the Economic Development Committee recommendation, told the council the grant award is "pending successful completion of the review of the due diligence through the Palmetto Sites program" and said the funds "will be used for acquisition of the southbound road site." The committee moved that full council approve acceptance of the grant and the related contract of sale; the motions carried on a roll call vote with all members voting yes.

The county administrator and committee discussion referenced the Palmetto Sites due-diligence review as a condition of accepting the grant; no additional financial terms of the purchase beyond acreage and location were discussed on the record. Council emphasized the vote was to authorize acquisition for future economic development rather than to commit specific site uses at this meeting.
