Council approves emergency management and library grants, and related budget amendment

Lexington County Council on Feb. 24 approved several grants and a related budget amendment to bring the awards into the county’s fiscal year accounts.
The Health and Human Services committee reported and recommended acceptance of the 2025 Local Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG) in the amount of $75,946. The grant was described as funding updated radiological equipment and a sheriff support radio for EOC activations; council approved the acceptance by voice and roll call during the meeting.
The committee also reported receipt of a South Carolina American Revolution Sesquicentennial Commission grant for $10,000 to partner with reenactors and deliver 1½‑hour educational programs at each county library branch; council approved accepting the award. County administrator later presented a budget amendment of $10,000 to establish library budget authority for that award and the council approved the amendment.
Each item was moved, seconded and approved by roll call; the clerk recorded unanimous “Yes” votes for the listed council members. The county will add the grant revenue and corresponding program expenses to the FY26 budget and proceed with program planning for library events and EMPG‑funded equipment purchases.
