Lexington County sets March open houses for county transportation improvement plan

Vice chair Cockrell told council the meetings are informal drop‑in sessions planned across the county and urged residents to attend with questions. “These are drop‑in informal, 5 to 7. Come with all your questions. Please come and be informed because this is very important for the future of Lexington,” Cockrell said during the meeting.
Staff listed locations and dates: March 16 at Brookland‑Cayce High School gymnasium (5 p.m.), March 17 at Pelion High School, March 18 at the Lexington Auxiliary Administrative Building (rooms 112 and 113), March 19 at Chapin High School, March 23 at Seven Oaks and March 25 at Batesburg‑Leesville High School. Public Works representatives said the sessions will explain plan purpose, existing conditions, proposed projects and solicit resident priorities.
Public Works staff identified Tim Shumpert (interim public works director), Derek Pratt (C‑fund manager) and David Beatty (PE senior principal, Stantec) as county and consultant leads. The county advised that information and event details are available on the county website.
Officials said the Transportation Improvement Plan work is separate from the county’s capital project sales tax effort but will produce information that could inform future capital funding decisions. The council later recessed to convene the County Transportation Committee to consider related plan updates.
