The Elk Grove Unified School District Board of Education unanimously approved two districtwide observances on Jan. 13, 2026: Resolution No. 44 designating February 2026 as Black/African American History Month, and Resolution No. 46 designating February 2026 as Career Technical Education (CTE) Month.
Dr. Collier (speaker) presented Resolution No. 44, saying that the observance "encourages society at large and schools in particular to highlight, uplift, and affirm the rich history and current contributions of Black/African American Americans" and that the district’s curriculum and professional learning will support activities at multiple grade levels.
Miss Hubbard introduced the CTE Month resolution and described district CTE programming. She said the College and Career Connections department manages approximately $7,000,000 in CTE grant funds, supports 65 pathways across district sites, and noted the district recently secured roughly $650,000 in grant funds to expand the fire science pathway at Valley High School. Multiple Laguna Creek students and a program coordinator described hands-on projects and workforce connections; Rob Hayworth (MPTA coordinator) brought student-made items as tokens for the board.
Both resolutions were called for motion and adopted without opposition. The board did not attach additional funding actions to either ceremonial designation at the meeting.
