Board ratifies CSEA tentative agreement, approves MOUs on athletics and Concordia placements

At its Dec. 16 meeting the Redondo Beach Unified School District board approved several personnel and partnership agreements, including ratification of the 2025–26 tentative agreement with the California School Employees Association (CSEA) chapter 57 and memoranda establishing program and committee arrangements.
Mark Lewis, president of the local CSEA chapter, reported membership ratification results to the board. The board then approved a one‑year tentative agreement with CSEA chapter 57 as presented; staff described this as the final year of that successor agreement and said CSEA intends to return for further talks next year.
Trustees also approved a memorandum of understanding to implement independent‑study athletics. Under that agreement the district will assign a PE teacher a period and compensation to oversee the independent‑study athletics program for the remainder of the school year. The board approved forming a salary‑schedule restructuring committee per the RBTA contract to explore potential changes to salary structure (with no promises of immediate changes).
Separately, the board approved an MOU with Concordia University to provide counseling and psychology credential candidates with fieldwork experiences in district schools; Rachel Andrews in educational services will coordinate placements if the MOU is executed.
Trustees thanked union leaders and staff for collaborative negotiations and recorded the student advisory vote as "Aye."
