Vice Chair Conwell summarized the project and the committee's action, noting the total project cost of roughly $322,090 and that the project qualifies for FAA reimbursement of up to 95% with the remaining 5% cost shared between the South Carolina Aeronautics Commission and Lexington County at approximately $3,947 each. "Staff requested approval ... to accept the FAA grant of $150,000 for the airport layout plan," Conwell said; following a motion the council voted to accept the grant.
The committee also reported it convened in executive session earlier for contract negotiations related to Lexington County Airport property acquisition and moved to recommend council approval of a contract to purchase Lot 3 of Lexington Farms Phase 3. Council voted to approve the property acquisition following the committee report. The motions and votes were recorded during the business portion of the July 29 meeting.
Both measures passed on roll‑call votes recorded in the meeting minutes; staff said the grant is reimbursable and the acquisition is in support of planned airport improvements. Next steps include final contract execution and project implementation according to the county's capital improvement plan and FAA reimbursement procedures.
The project is included in the airport capital improvement plan and paid for with FAA/State/Local matches as described in the committee report; the council's acceptance authorizes staff to complete the grant paperwork and proceed with closing on the land purchase.
