Key numbers: Staff reported 464 classrooms districtwide. Using OPSC (Office of Public School Construction) loading standards, staff calculated a district capacity of 11,164. Using a maximum-usage scenario (every classroom active at a higher factor), staff calculated a maximum capacity of about 12,463; a more conservative "current usage" capacity estimate was 11,007, yielding an apparent space for roughly 1,874 additional students when compared with current enrollment figures.
Process and next steps: District staff said MGT (demographic consultant) will use classroom-inventory, site loading and study-area inputs to model boundary changes and to test grandfathering options for students already enrolled if boundaries shift. Trustees asked about how TK/K classrooms are counted, interchangeability of special-day-class rooms, and how classroom averages interact with negotiated class-size averages. Staff said tradeoffs exist and that the software will model seven years of projections and can incorporate grandfathering and transition options.
Implication: The analysis will feed future boundary recommendations and possible facilities or staffing planning. Trustees asked staff to preserve family stability where possible and to return with demographer results at a follow-up meeting.
