Parkview students and staff honored; principal cites test gains

Parkview School honored students and staff during the Mountain View School District Board of Education meeting, presenting student-of-the-year awards and an employee recognition while sharing district performance data.
Principal Ramirez introduced the honorees and cited data from the 2025 California Dashboard, saying Parkview saw an 18.7 percentage-point increase in English language arts and a 23.6-point increase in math, an 11.2 percent rise in English-learner progress, and a 1.1 percentage-point decrease in chronic absenteeism. "These indicators demonstrate that we're on the right path," Ramirez said.
Students who spoke included Eduardo Barajas, who described academic challenges he overcame and thanked his family and teachers, and Jaylene Lopez Hernandez, who accepted her student-of-the-year recognition and thanked teachers and parents for support. "This award is really for my parents," Jaylene said.
The board president congratulated the honorees and families, and board members praised Parkview staff and the students’ speeches. The recognitions portion included remarks from the school counselor and the teacher of the year, who both thanked colleagues and families for support.
The recognitions were followed by a short break before the regular meeting resumed.
