Sequoia trustees honor East Palo Alto Academy students and staff for leadership and outcomes

Teacher Jaime Vasquez and several students described rallies, spirit weeks, ice-cream socials and dual-enrollment pathways that contribute to school culture and college readiness.
Kate Heil, executive director of the East Palo Alto Academy Foundation, told the board about the school's origin and the foundation's work supporting scholarships and staff. She cited a roughly 95% graduation rate and stressed that those outcomes occur in a context of high need—high percentages of socioeconomically disadvantaged students and first-generation college-goers.
The board acknowledged the remarks and moved on to the agenda; staff noted principal Silverman would present additional details later in the EPAA LCAP midyear update.
