Board approves Chromebooks purchase, 2024–25 audit, courses and calendars

At its Jan. 27 meeting the Santa Paula Unified Board approved several routine but consequential items: a district purchase of 850 Chromebooks, acceptance of the 2024–25 audit with a clean opinion, approval of School Accountability Report Cards (SARCs) and instructional calendars for 2026–27, and an early certificated retirement/resignation notification incentive.
Business services requested board approval to buy 850 Chromebooks at a total cost of $264,254.55 from LCAP technology funds to refresh aging devices. The request cited a global RAM shortage and projected savings of $30,000–$40,000 by purchasing now. "This purchase will improve device performance, security, reduce maintenance issues and ensure equitable access," the business services presenter said. The board voted to approve the purchase.
Independent auditors Nigro & Nigro presented the district's annual audit for fiscal year 2024–25 and issued an unmodified (clean) opinion on the financial statements and federal/state program compliance. The auditor reported no state compliance findings; he did offer management recommendations concerning some ASB disbursement approvals that occurred after expenses were incurred and limited documentation for a small number of ASB cash receipts. The board approved the audit.
Other approvals included posting SARCs to the district website by Feb. 1, authorization to move forward with new course approvals in concept for a building and construction pathway at Santa Paula High School, adoption of the 2026–27 instructional calendars (start date moved to a Wednesday), and a $5,000 incentive for tenured certificated employees who notify the district by Feb. 17 of retirement/resignation to help staffing planning.
Most routine items passed on unanimous or near‑unanimous votes; no controversial roll calls were reported.
