Paramount Unified board tables proposal to replace district social workers with licensed clinical school social workers

The item description presented to the board said the action would establish a new job description and employment authorization for "licensed clinical school social workers" and eliminate the district social worker positions. During discussion, a board member said the change could negatively affect students and asked for the item to be deferred.
"Taking action on an item that is going to negatively impact our students should not occur tonight," the board member said, moving to table the item. The motion to table was seconded; the board then took a roll-call vote and recorded the motion as passing with the board members present voting in favor.
Superintendent Dr. Lytle and staff explained that tabling an item would remove it from tonight's agenda and allow time for additional review and public input. Staff said they would provide follow-up information for the board and the public before the item returns to the agenda.
No change to district social work staffing occurred at the meeting; the item remains tabled pending further review and additional information to be provided to the board.
