District to ship donated textbooks and supplies to Sierra Leone village; community asked to help cover shipping

A representative from the nonprofit said a quote to ship the container to Freetown is approximately $7,800, with additional costs to move the load to the inland village, bringing the likely total to roughly $12,000. The nonprofit said items the village needs include books, clothing, tires and bicycles; district staff noted the donation was approved on tonight’s consent agenda and said they will publish drop‑off details and collection times before spring break.
Board members praised the humanitarian effort and discussed possible district and community partners to help with transportation and medical supplies. The district indicated it would coordinate with Key Clubs and other student organizations to support collection and outreach.
