The Barstow Unified board approved two related consent items (K41 and K42) authorizing district‑paid commemorative championship rings, not to exceed $200 per recipient, for the Barstow High School football team and eligible supervising staff after a brief presentation and questions on eligibility.
Staff said eligible recipients include varsity players and team managers (approximately 50 individuals, including managers), coaches (approximately 11–12) and eligible supervising employees who provided direct oversight. Staff estimated the total cost would not exceed the per‑item cap and indicated the district would fund the rings from its general fund in accordance with Education Code guidance on recognition awards.
A trustee asked whether trophies or rings are kept as a district artifact; staff responded trophies are displayed in cases while commemorative rings are typically issued to recipients. The board approved both items by voice vote.
