Antioch Unified elects board leadership and approves committee rosters for 2026

At its December meeting, the Antioch Unified School District Board of Education held its annual organizational business, electing leadership and confirming committee assignments for 2026.
Trustee Lathan was elected board president by roll-call vote and Trustee Cobo Smith was elected vice president. The board also appointed the district superintendent to serve as secretary of the governing board and approved the slate of standing and ad hoc committee assignments presented by staff, including continuing representation on bond oversight and city–schools collaboration committees.
The board discussed recommended assignment continuity for most committees and a planned audit-review role that will include one four-hour meeting in January with the Chief Business Officer and the associate superintendent of business and operations. The board declined to reconstitute the special-education ad hoc committee, with staff noting the committee's foundational work is complete and next steps move into implementation.
All organizational items and committee assignments were approved by motion and roll-call vote.
