The Saugus Union School District governing board voted Oct. 21 to approve a temporary realignment of attendance boundaries for Santa Clarita Elementary to address capacity concerns while the district awaits a full demographer report.
Trustee Heinlein told the board the temporary change is intended to stabilize enrollment while MGT's full demography report is finalized in January or February 2026. He said the demographer provides a seven‑year enrollment projection and GIS study areas that the district relies on for longer-term boundary decisions.
Heinlein said the district wants to use "the latest and greatest data" before making permanent changes and that the approved resolution is explicitly temporary; the board will take a later resolution if it elects to make the realignment permanent.
The motion to approve the temporary realignment (resolution 25-26-30) passed on roll call. Board discussion also scheduled an initial Santa Clarita Elementary community meeting to review the demographer's findings and reserved subsequent monthly dates to continue the boundary review process.
What happens next: the demographer's detailed report is expected in January or February 2026; the district plans outreach and at least one community presentation in December (rescheduled from Nov. 19 to Dec. 10) followed by additional meetings through the spring if needed. Families likely to be affected would generally be grandfathered to avoid immediate displacement, Heinlein said.
