District counsel and HR staff explained that Education Code authority allows the district to identify positions to be reduced because of changes in funding and program needs. The presentation said the district identified 69 certificated positions (69.0 full‑time equivalents) subject to reduction; officials emphasized that the resolution documents position reductions and does not mean the immediate layoff of employees.
A district representative told the board that, because of site approvals, coach and academic support positions, plus resignations, natural attrition and retirement, no employees will be laid off as a direct result of the resolution. Board members acknowledged the difficulty of such decisions and emphasized the district's intent to exhaust alternatives before permanent separations.
The resolution passed on a roll call vote with the motion made and seconded from the dais.
