Lyndhurst FFA highlights record growth, announces $40,000 award

Chase Bisbee, Lyndhurst High School agriculture teacher and FFA advisor, told the Marysville Joint Unified School District board that the FFA chapter has experienced rapid growth and “is on the move.” He said the chapter — in its 51st year — has expanded course offerings and student opportunities and now supports what presenters described as a 123% increase in program enrollment.
Students and staff described concrete enrollment gains across the agriculture pathway: the animal science class rose to 153 students following a reported 69‑student increase; Ag Mechanics and AgMEC course enrollment also doubled in places; and chapter‑level event participation grew from under 200 students to more than 400 in the year cited by presenters. Michelle Lockhart, the FFA secretary, said the district authorized overnight state and national leadership opportunities for more than 100 students that supported that surge.
Lyndhurst students highlighted first‑time achievements and program milestones. Lily Curtis, FFA president, said the chapter earned eight state degrees last year — the highest number in Lyndhurst’s history. Students described new student‑run enterprises such as the spring plant sale and a new alumni chapter that will mentor current members.
Taylor Bisbee, one of the Lyndhurst advisors, told the board the Yuba River Endowment recently awarded the chapter $40,000 to support livestock facility upgrades: "They awarded our chapter $40,000," she said, adding that the endowment’s support will fund facility improvements that advisors and students said are urgently needed to sustain growth.
Board members and the superintendent praised the students. The board’s public comments recognized the grant and encouraged the chapter to build on the momentum. The presentation concluded with an invitation for trustees to continue supporting hands‑on agriculture pathways through district staffing and facility investment.
The FFA delegation also asked trustees to note program needs as the district plans capital and curriculum priorities; no formal board action was required beyond the acknowledgement.
