Multiple regional firms submitted proposals — examples include Chemung Supply Corporation for guide rail and structural steel; Bicknell Building Supply for lumber and bagged Portland cement; JE Sheehan Contracting Corporation, Midland Asphalt Materials Inc., Allstate Construction (doing business as Gorman Construction), and Barrett Paving Materials for various asphalt and paving items — and the superintendent verified noncollusion certificates, addendum acknowledgements and insurance paperwork where present.
Some items drew no offers. Don Chambers announced there were no bids for the new sheet piling item and for corrugated culvert pipe (item 12). He also said one item (listed as item 6 in the bid book) would not be opened today because an addendum was not distributed in time; that item will be opened next week when the county reconvenes material-bid openings.
The opening included a cluster of submissions for aggregate and sand (item 9), where the record showed bids from Collins Sand & Gravel, Perrisville Sand & Gravel, Stouts Ready Mix and several trucking firms. For asphalt and surface-treatment categories the county logged addendum acknowledgements for certain bidders and confirmed insurance certificates when submitted.
The bid opening closed after the listed items were read and confirmed. The superintendent announced the next material-bid opening is scheduled for the 26th at 1:00, when the county will open transit-mix concrete, precast concrete systems, precast box culverts and related concrete items.
The county did not announce awards at this session; bids were recorded for later review and procurement procedures.
