In a report read aloud to the public, board leadership credited Benson with reversing an overall decline in CAASPP results, accelerating construction on a sixth‑grade wing at Golden West Middle School, and developing a district evaluation process for site and district leadership. "She has quickly established a professional reputation characterized by responsiveness, strong institutional knowledge, and approachability," the board's written evaluation said.
The report listed Benson’s strengths as including team development and accountability, written and verbal communication, strategic vision and instructional leadership. It also noted the intensity of her work and cautioned that the current pace may be difficult to sustain over time.
Board President Matt Badu told the room the board would provide a fuller update on the superintendent’s contract at the next meeting in March. "We have a lot more steps to do," he said when introducing the evaluation summary.
Why it matters: Superintendent evaluations are the board’s primary oversight mechanism and help set expectations for district leaders. The board’s public reading signals confidence in Benson’s direction of district priorities, including academic recovery and facilities projects funded through Measure R.
