Pleasant Hill Commission on Aging reviews workshops, senior van service and outreach plans

Pleasant Hill — The Commission on Aging delivered its 2025 annual report to the City Council on March 16, describing a year of workshops, community outreach and steps to increase access to senior resources.

Brett Sweet, the city’s economic development manager and staff liaison to the commission, introduced the commission chair, who outlined four full‑workshop events last year—topics included proactive planning for aging, recognizing Alzheimer’s signs, financial safety, and a memorial/‘connecting with others’ event designed to reduce social isolation. The chair said workshop materials and PowerPoints are posted on the city website and that the commission will work to make the web resources easier to find.

Commissioners highlighted the senior van service—operated by the city for roughly 20 years—and said monthly rides varied but have generally remained steady except during the COVID years. The council previously funded CPR and first‑aid training for two drivers; the commission reported six volunteer drivers are now certified. The commission plans a 2026 safety series (financial safety completed; disaster preparedness scheduled for April 24; a community safety event with the Pleasant Hill Police Department in June; and a home safety workshop in August) and a caregiver workshop later this year.

The commission also said it partners with Meals on Wheels for targeted volunteer yard‑cleanup projects and with the senior center and other local groups for outreach. Commissioners asked staff to improve the city webpages with direct links and QR codes so seniors can more easily find programs.
