Sioux City student Veronica Guerra honored as Iowa League of Cities essay winner

Mike Armstrong of the Iowa League of Cities introduced the organization’s seventh-grade essay contest and announced Veronica Guerra of Sioux City as the District 4 winner. Armstrong said the statewide contest drew more than 350 submissions and that Veronica’s essay “exemplified what we wanted to see in our future leaders.”
Veronica told the council she was proud to represent her family and community and thanked her judges, principal (Miss Fisher) and parents for their support. Armstrong said the League produced a plaque for the student and asked the school to provide a copy of the essay to the city.
The recognition was presented during the opening portion of the meeting; the council applauded and congratulated Veronica.
