Matthews Police recognized for completing League of Municipalities law‑enforcement risk review

The Board of Commissioners presented a plaque March 23 recognizing the Matthews Police Department for completing the North Carolina League of Municipalities’ law-enforcement risk review.
Chet Efler, a public-safety consultant with the League of Municipalities, described the review as a comprehensive assessment of over 40 high-liability areas—including pursuits, use-of-force, employment practices and training—and said Matthews completed the optional additional standards the league recently added. "We're proud to report that Matthews police department has completed the law enforcement risk review process," Efler said.
Chief Havens thanked his staff and framed the recognition as a team accomplishment: "My goal as your chief is to be the best agency in Mecklenburg County," he said.
The board posed no formal questions and the department and league representatives took a group photo with elected officials to mark the recognition.
