District staff showed plans for a renovated Vanderbilt playground with rubberized surfacing, fencing, a pavilion, increased accessible features and more slides; site work is expected to start in June and finish by the start of the next school year.
District staff presented plans for an upgraded Vanderbilt playground that include rubberized surfacing, a concrete sidewalk, fencing, benches with umbrellas, a pavilion suitable for outdoor learning, wheelchair‑accessible features, and new play structures.
Lindsay Frederick said the design reflects feedback gathered from lunch aides, students, parents, teacher representatives and the special‑education parent advisory group. The existing Gaga pit will be relocated but retained. Construction site work is expected to begin in June with an aim to complete the project before the next school year begins.
Board members and attendees thanked staff and volunteers who participated in the stakeholder group. No vote or funding action was taken at the meeting; Frederick said the project is part of the district's planned referendum projects and acknowledged community support.
