Vernon ISD board authorizes up to $250,000 for exterior door and access-control upgrades

The Vernon Independent School District Board of Trustees on Nov. 10 authorized the purchase and installation of exterior doors and electronic access-control systems for Vernon Elementary, Vernon Middle School and Vernon High School, setting a not-to-exceed limit of $250,000.
The motion, made by Trustee Chris Lehman and seconded by Trustee Jarrod David, directs staff to buy doors, door position sensors and related hardware from Texoma Builders Supply. Assistant Superintendent Blaise Boswell told trustees the project “included all exterior doors at VMS and VHS and adding technology to the new doors and existing doors.” Chief Financial Officer Clay Montgomery said the district will use money from a Safety grant to pay for the door project.
The board did not adopt further specifications in open session; the motion authorizes procurement up to the stated cap. The project as described focuses on securing exterior entries at the middle and high school campuses and adding the electronic controls necessary to monitor and manage door position and access.
Trustees approved the purchase during the action items portion of the regular meeting; no vote tally by member name was recorded in the minutes beyond the named motion and second. Implementation timing, contractor schedule and any required building permits were not specified in the board report and will be handled by district administration.
