VERNON ISD board approves consent agenda including delayed teacher certification plan; records hires and retirements

The Vernon Independent School District Board of Trustees unanimously approved its consent agenda on Jan. 12 and recorded several personnel changes.
Trustee Chris Lehman moved to approve the consent agenda; Trustee Amanda Lehman seconded. Items listed in the consent package included the Dec. 15 meeting minutes, the financial report, a plan to delay teacher certification requirements, Update 126 and approval of SLR-508: Declaration of Compliance. The motion carried unanimously.
Personnel actions recorded in the meeting minutes included the hire of Rozamond Duque as a paraprofessional for the middle school. The board acknowledged resignations from Hagan Northcutt (teacher/coach, middle school) and Laura Atkin (ARD facilitator, WSSA), with Atkin's resignation listed as effective May 23, 2026. The minutes also recorded retirements from Chris Waggoner (math teacher, high school) and Brett White (government/economics teacher, high school), both effective May 23, 2026.
During the same meeting the board entered a closed session at 7:06 p.m. and returned at 7:35 p.m.; no action was taken following closed session. The meeting adjourned at 7:36 p.m. The board's next regular meeting is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Monday, Feb. 16.
