Region 9 review finds strong curriculum alignment, recommends improved instructional alignment across campuses

Region 9 representatives told the Vernon ISD board they saw strong curriculum alignment and welcoming classrooms but recommended improved instructional alignment across campuses after classroom observations, PLC visits, artifact reviews and surveys.
Region 9 Education Service Center representatives Brian Bibb and Tracy Patrick presented a Strategic Leadership Landscape Analysis to the Vernon ISD Board of Trustees on Jan. 12.
The Region 9 team reported conducting 23 classroom observations and walkthroughs, attending six professional learning communities, collecting 50 artifacts, reviewing 105 student assignments and compiling 1,290 survey responses from students, teachers and families, plus 25 responses from local businesses. Their summary said the district demonstrated strong curriculum alignment and welcoming classroom environments, and noted that monthly coaching is in place for RLA and math teachers.
The presenters identified opportunities to strengthen instructional alignment between campuses so that teaching practices and student work more consistently reflect curriculum expectations. The board did not take formal action on the review during the meeting.
Brian Bibb and Tracy Patrick indicated the review's findings would inform instructional planning and coaching priorities across the district.
