Parents, sponsors ask Vernon ISD to reinstate Lionette Drill Team; students present Emergent Bilingual program video

During the public comment portion of the Feb. 16 Vernon ISD Board of Trustees meeting, Laura Harter addressed trustees on behalf of Lionette Drill Team members, parents and sponsors, asking the board to reconsider a decision to discontinue the program and highlighting benefits to participating students.
Earlier in the meeting, students Simon Reyes, Aidee Perez-Velasco, Joanna Blut and Eh Htoo presented a video produced by Manuel Perez as part of the Emergent Bilingual program. Interim Superintendent Dr. Blaise Boswell recognized Manuel Perez for earning his teaching certification through the district’s Grow Your Own program.
The minutes record the request for reconsideration but do not show any board response or a motion to reopen the program during this meeting.
