Edison board says 2025–26 school year opened smoothly; bus registration to reopen Oct. 1

At a caucus meeting, the Edison Township Board of Education praised staff for a smooth opening to the 2025–26 school year and said bus registration will reopen Oct. 1.
Board President Mr. Xi thanked transportation and facilities teams for reducing the number of bus problems compared with last year and singled out facility staff — naming Calibas and Ross — for their work at Marshall and Edison High School. “We had much less issues for transportation,” Mr. Xi said. “Special thanks to our facility folks, Mister Calibas and his team.”
Superintendent Dr. Aldarelli also credited staff and previewed items for the next public meeting, including recognition of Pamela Eng as Middlesex County Teacher of the Year and a district award related to the use of artificial intelligence in student and staff information systems. “I want to congratulate and thank everybody who contributed to the success of another smooth opening for the 2025–26 school year,” Dr. Aldarelli said.
Administrators reported that the JP Stevens paving project and the cafeteria work at Edison High School were completed in time for students, though some final touch-up work remains. The business administrator, Mr. Toth, outlined upcoming administrative items the board will consider at its next meeting: the FY27 budget calendar (with a kickoff meeting in October), disposal of obsolete fixed assets, special-education tuition rates, a variety of procurement contracts, acceptance into the BuyBoard national cooperative, and a change order at the JP Stevens auditorium for paneling.
The board framed the Oct. 1 bus registration reopen date as part of routine transportation planning for the year and said transportation route awards will be considered at an upcoming meeting. No formal votes on those operational items were recorded at the caucus meeting; the board moved to private session to discuss personnel, litigation, student matters and property acquisition.
The board will address the listed budget, procurement and curriculum items at its next public Board of Education meeting on Tuesday.
