Board approves consent agenda and superintendent's report; trustees raise concern about agenda timing

The Bayonne Board of Education approved routine consent items and the superintendent's report and discussed concerns about the timing of agenda distribution at a meeting held in the Nicholas Aresco Community School auditorium.

The moderator moved items A1 through A12 as a block for approval; a trustee moved and another seconded. The board polled trustees by name and recorded their voice votes; the consent agenda passed. The superintendent's report (items B1 through B7) was presented and approved in like manner.

During the session a trustee raised a procedural concern, saying the packaged agenda had been circulated that morning and not within a 24-hour window before the meeting. Trustees discussed the calendar: committee meetings are generally held the week before regular board meetings, and the board agreed to bring suggested items to the next workshop, tentatively scheduled for Jan. 27. One trustee noted they had reviewed the materials earlier that morning but wanted clearer advance notice; the board agreed to revisit the calendar and specific dates at the workshop.

Near the close of the meeting the moderator asked for a brief moment of silence to remember Michelle Carter, a school secretary at Bailey who recently passed away. Trustees then moved, seconded and voted to adjourn; the moderator declared the meeting adjourned at 06:16.

The approvals were procedural and did not alter board policy; the scheduling discussion resulted in a direction to revisit committee and meeting dates at the workshop rather than a binding change.
