At the high school, the board honored Gianna Capriglione for surpassing 1,000 career points (announced total 1,043), with coaches and administrators noting her leadership and commitment; Capriglione plans to continue her academic and athletic career at Montclair State University. The board also celebrated the Roxbury High School girls indoor track and field team’s Morris County championship and recognized multiple coaches and athletes across middle and elementary school programs.
Student leaders reported that the district’s annual fundraising program raised a new record of $148,572.31 during the main event and, with additional donations, exceeded $150,000. The students said proceeds are being distributed to families affected by pediatric cancer and to local hospitals, including the Gloria Children’s Hospital at Morristown Medical Center; advisers highlighted that the fundraising effort has generated significant lifetime giving for the district.
Board members and the superintendent praised the students, coaches and volunteers for their community engagement and encouraged attendance at upcoming events (elementary information sessions, choir festival and school performances). The recognitions preceded the budget presentation that followed later in the meeting.
