Parent tells board only‑children are being excluded from some after‑school events

Meredith of 16 Charles Foster Drive addressed the board during public comment to say that not all students in the Bordentown Regional School District are permitted to attend after‑school events hosted at certain schools. "We currently have 1 child, a first grader who attends Peter Musial Elementary School," she said, and described being excluded from events such as "breakfast with Santa, bingo night, and the special persons dance" this year because the child does not have a sibling attending the host school.
"Our daughter has been left feeling excluded and, quite frankly, discriminated against simply because she's an only child," Meredith said, asking the board to rectify what she called an oversight in the district plan so first graders who lack older siblings can attend the activities they enjoyed last year.
Chair S2 responded that the board was "very sorry to hear" and would look into who organizes the events and how they are scheduled. The chair and Dr. Altobello invited the parent to follow up and said the board wants "to see all of our kids in our district, have the ability to do everything we can."
