Board hears audit deadline extension and bond-funded HVAC progress for Edgewood Middle School

At its Nov. 18 meeting, the Moriarty-Edgewood School District board received updates on audits, bond-funded projects and operations.
A finance committee member said the district submitted first-quarter reports to the state and that the federal portion of the audit was delayed because of a federal government shutdown; the federal deadline was extended to Jan. 20 and the extension will add an additional fee the committee estimated at "a little over $3,000." The committee said the state portion was submitted on time and that the audit will be completed in two pieces.
Board members also thanked voters for approving a general obligation bond and a two-mill levy in an off-cycle election, saying turnout was strong across counties and that bond funds will be used for facilities and maintenance. A trustee specifically noted progress on Edgewood Middle School HVAC work and said conversations with vendors are moving forward, including options for units and controls that allow remote monitoring and control.
On transportation, staff reported that all bus routes currently have drivers, with at least one extra driver available, but that route consolidations mean the district remains vulnerable to last-minute cancellations if drivers call out.
No formal finance votes were taken beyond earlier consent-agenda approvals; trustees said they would continue monitoring audit deliverables and project timelines.
