Wayne Board and WEA honor Governor's Educator of the Year recipients

The Wayne Board of Education and the Wayne Education Association on Feb. 19 honored this year's Governor's Educator of the Year recipients from across the Wayne Township Public School District.
The Superintendent framed the tribute with a comparison to the Oscars, noting the district's own "red carpet" recognition for staff. "Tonight, our governance educators here will walk down a red carpet...we recognize those who define excellence in education," the Superintendent said.
Heather Potts Jacobs, president of the Wayne Education Association, spoke to the broad range of honorees, including teachers and educational support professionals such as paraprofessionals, counselors, nurses, custodians and others. "These awards are not about one big moment. They are about showing up day after day," she said.
District leaders read honoree names from each school. Recipients named included Erin Matysic (Preakness Early Childhood Center), Jessica Hatefic (Preakness ESP), Tiffany Dominguez (APT), Stephanie Piper (APT ESP), Kathy Gonzalez (Fallon), Joseph Hixwa (Fallon ESP), Scott Wagner (John F. Kennedy), Huddie Puleo (John F. Kennedy ESP), AJ Allen (Lafayette) and many others across schools and roles. The program concluded with a group photo and a brief recess for pictures.
Board members offered congratulatory remarks and the meeting recessed briefly to take group photos. The ceremony was presented as part of the regular board meeting agenda; no formal action was taken in connection with the awards.
