Board approves bundled education, HR and operations consent motions; exceptions noted for two trips

The Hillsborough Township Board of Education approved a series of consent motions on Feb. 26 covering education, human resources and operations after discussion and recorded exceptions on some items.

Under the education bundle, the board considered professional travel, superintendent determinations, book adoptions, revised curriculum, overnight and field trip destinations (including an FBLA trip), Title I winter camp staffing, a grant application for Sunnymede, acceptance of a $500 grant from the Mark Shawn Witter Holocaust Education Foundation, and long‑term student suspensions. The motion to approve the education packet passed; however, multiple board members registered votes of “yes” except for item 11.5 (two trips to California), which they recorded as a separate “no” on that portion.

The human resources packet (retirements and resignations, appointments, employment changes, leaves of absence, spring coaches, co‑curricular advisors, testing coordinator support, student teachers, stipends and job descriptions) was approved; one board member registered an exception on item 12.5 (two hires associated with live football). The operations packet (monthly bills, financials, line‑item transfers, out‑of‑district placements, donations and disposal of obsolete equipment) was presented, with board members asking for explanation about a large First Student transportation payment (about $508,000); administration explained those are contracted transportation costs and administrative payments. Policies and regulations reviewed by HR and governance committees were also approved or advanced for first reading as indicated on the agenda.

Votes were recorded on the public roll. Mr. Eckert called the roll for each motion; the motion results were announced by President Davis as carrying. The minutes and the meeting record show abstentions and exceptions where noted during the roll call.
