Board approves first reading to add three missing policies after conversion

The North Hunterdon-Voorhees Regional High School District board voted at a March 17 work session to add three policies (and six accompanying regulations/exhibits) that were omitted from the district's policy manual after a recent vendor conversion.

Brian, who prefaced the policy packet as chair of the ad hoc committee, told the board the items were intended to be part of the manual when it was adopted last June but were not uploaded. He said the ad hoc committee reviewed the items, found no substantive red flags, and recommended bringing them in through a first-reading process so the public and the full board could see them.

The board discussed some language clarifications (for example, whether parental outreach duties should reference the principal or a principal's designee and ensuring the code of conduct regulation matches the student code handed out at the schools). Administration and the ad hoc committee agreed to make minor wording changes for clarity before second reading.

Chair called for a motion to approve agenda item 9.1 (the three missing policies). The motion was moved and seconded and passed by voice vote with no opposition. The board will consider final adoption at the next meeting after a second reading, per standard first/second reading procedure.

Why it matters: Administration said the missing items appear to be clerical omissions from the manual conversion process, not new policy initiatives, and the first-reading vote restores transparency and consistent documentation for the public and board members.

Next steps: Administration will publish the red-line versions and present them at next week's meeting for a second reading and vote to adopt. Regulations and exhibits were noted as administrative and not subject to the first/second reading process but will be included on next week's agenda for review.
