Board receives SMEDA sunshine proposal and approves district’s initial 2026–27 bargaining proposal

Stephanie Fermani, executive director of human resources, explained that the district’s approach is to "receive" both openers publicly as part of the statutory reopener process and then proceed with bargaining. No members of the public spoke during the brief public hearing on the proposals.
Board members signaled interest in continuing robust discussions with labor partners and bringing follow-up information to future meetings. The approvals were procedural steps to open formal negotiations between the district and SMEDA.
