The agency approved a funding award to assist the owner of the El Rancho Boulder Motel at 725 Nevada Way with replacement of the building's fire‑safety alarm system. Raffy Festektion, the city’s economic development coordinator, said several smoke detectors were nonfunctional and that the city’s fire inspector had confirmed the condition. Festektion said the work is estimated to cost about $49,500 and that the property owner would be eligible to receive $14,850 from the agency once the project is completed. The board approved the request by voice vote.
In a separate item the agency approved a 50/50 signage grant for the Coffee Cup Café to refurbish a deteriorated storefront pylon sign and restore neon illumination consistent with the original look. Festektion said the project is estimated at $29,776, with a matching agency contribution of $14,638 if the work is completed. The agency recorded the action in the minutes as resolution 275; the measure passed by unanimous voice vote.
During the public comment period, Harry Stevens of the Coffee Cup thanked the redevelopment agency and said his business, in operation for 31 years, had applied for RDA grants for a second time and had benefited from past support. After the votes the Chair opened a final public comment period; no additional speakers appeared and the agency adjourned.
The actions taken were procedural approvals recorded in the meeting minutes and two funding awards to support building safety and façade/signage improvements. The agency did not record individual roll‑call vote tallies in the transcript; both items passed by unanimous voice votes.
