North Brunswick board accepts election results, re-elects Haley Toth as president and names Alicia James vice president

The North Brunswick Township School District Board of Education accepted its election results and completed its annual reorganization on Monday, reaffirming Haley Toth as board president and electing Alicia James as vice president.

The clerk presented the election totals to the board, noting that the district has "over 26,000 registered voters" and that "over 12,000 votes" were cast for the Board of Education positions. The board voted to accept the results and recognized the top three vote-getters: Mister Carter, Miss Cepeda and Miss Sinha.

In nominations for board officers, the board elected Haley Toth as president by voice vote; Toth thanked the board after the vote. The contest for vice president went to a written ballot after two nominations were made. Alicia James received five votes to Dr. Praghi Patel's four and was declared vice president.

The board also read and adopted a code of ethics as part of the reorganization process. Board members read the code aloud letter by letter; excerpts included Miss Cepeda reading that she would "uphold and enforce all laws, rules, and regulations of the State Board of Education and court orders pertaining to schools," and Mister Liguori stating he would "hold confidential all matters pertaining to the schools" when disclosure would injure individuals or the schools. A roll-call vote recorded unanimous "yes" responses from the listed members and the code was adopted.

Under curriculum business (Item 14), the board approved a package of curriculum and instruction actions for the 2025–26 school year. During discussion, a board member noted that 17 North Brunswick Township High School students qualified for the Middlesex County Arts program; the board thanked staff for supporting those students. The curriculum motion passed on a roll-call vote.

During the public portion open to any matter, newly elected or re-elected members spoke briefly to thank voters and pledge service. Mister Carter said, "I just wanna take the time to thank the community members who voted for me," and Miss Sinha said she was "really, very grateful for the faith and the trust" placed in her. Miss Cepeda also thanked family and residents and highlighted the importance of representation.

Superintendent Dr. Zukowski congratulated the new members and thanked former members and families who attended. With no further business, the board moved to adjourn and the meeting ended.
