At its Oct. 27 meeting the West Orange Board of Education approved a series of routine but consequential items across personnel, curriculum and finance as part of the consent agenda.
President Rock moved approval of personnel items A1 through A6, which included recognition and thanks to retirees named in the agenda: Wendy Giuliano (reading specialist, Washington Elementary), Luz Latimer (ESL teacher, Washington Elementary), Mary Corvelli (paraprofessional, Liberty Middle School), Bria De Martinez (paraprofessional, Liberty Middle School) and Gary Fleming (custodian, Gregory Elementary). After a second, the board conducted a roll-call vote with the members present recorded as voting yes.
The board also approved curriculum and instruction items B1 through B12 and finance and business items (special services A1
A3 and business office B1 through B9) by motion and roll call; no substantive debate was recorded on those items. Reports items D1
D2 and miscellaneous item E1, which includes the district's stated 2025'26 goals and the planned five-year strategic planning emphasis, were likewise adopted.
Board members and the superintendent noted the importance of ongoing budget planning and community engagement as the district moves into planning and budget cycles; the superintendent reiterated a public strategic planning forum on Nov. 13. No votes recorded in the transcript failed or were tabled.
