The West Orange Board of Education approved policy number 2365, governing acceptable use of generative artificial intelligence, on its second reading.
President Rock introduced the item for second reading and adoption and Mister Stevenson moved to approve the policy; the motion received a second and the board conducted a roll-call vote. The minutes record affirmative votes from Doctor Bryant, Mister Ifker, Mister Stevenson, Vice President Vara and President Rock. The motion carried.
Board members noted the policy had been reviewed by the policy committee and administration, and a committee member encouraged the board to adopt the revisions as presented, saying the committee believes the amendments "serve the best interest of the operations of the district, our students, and the policy moving forward." The administration will publish the adopted policy on the district’s website and include it in the policy manual.
Next steps: the revised policy will be posted to the district’s policy page and implemented according to administration guidance.
