Principal Jennifer Blevins and Assistant Principal Renu Mendarada introduced programs that have earned national recognition: the STARS mentoring program and a student-run coffee shop for students with disabilities. The Woodrow Wilson jazz band performed "Jericho," and band director Sal Fosseau described the program’s expansion and student opportunities, including an audition wind ensemble and work with visiting professors.
Superintendent Eddie Alderelli introduced Pamela Eng of Lincoln Elementary as the Middlesex County Teacher of the Year. Eng thanked colleagues, mentors and her students and described the work that led to the honor.
Students from Woodrow Wilson also described FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) successes at the national leadership conference: presenters said 44 Woodrow students attended the conference, about 20 placed among the top-10 in events, several finished in the top five, and two students won first place in their categories. Students asked the board to continue supporting competitive travel and advisers.
The meeting included several brief presentations by student leaders from Edison High and John P. Stevens high schools about orientation, club fairs, the new JP Stevens wing and fall activities.
