District outlines redistricting plan and full-day kindergarten rollout; families to be notified April 10

District officials presented a phased redistricting plan for the six elementary schools and confirmed the district will launch full-day kindergarten in 2026'27.

Mr. Handler, identified as the district's point person for redistricting, told the board the administration has finalized new boundary lines and that families who are affected will be notified "directly after spring break on Friday, April 10." He said principals will offer opportunities later in the spring for students and families who are redistricted to visit and get acquainted with their new schools.

The district said its objective is to "minimize movement using a phased incremental approach" so that students moved now generally will not be moved again when boundaries are reevaluated 2 to 3 years from now as new construction is completed. Where space allows, the district plans to offer a "stay put" option for some rising fourth graders in 2026'27; that option will be contingent on available capacity and require families to provide transportation because district transportation will not be guaranteed for the stay-put choice.

Officials also tied redistricting to workforce and program changes: the budget includes 29 new staff positions to support full-day kindergarten, including 12 kindergarten teachers and 10 elementary lunch aides. The administration said staff have attended professional development focused on early-learning practices.

Next steps: the district will notify affected families after April 10 and will post updated Genesis enrollment information. Principals will meet with families later this spring to support transitions.
