Moriarty-Edgewood board tables superintendent contract until March 2026

The Moriarty-Edgewood School District Board of Education voted Dec. 16 to table consideration of the superintendent's contract until the board's March meeting, citing a change in state election-related rules that, according to a board member, prevents action at this time.

A board member moved to table the superintendent's contract until the March 2026 board meeting, saying a recent legislative change tied to election timing means the board cannot act now. The motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.

"A lot of people don't know legislation changed. So at this time, we're not able to actually make a decision or act on this contract beginning with the election date of the new members until the second day in March," the member who moved to table said, urging the postponement while noting the board's desire to follow legal timing requirements.

The chair and other members said the district was satisfied with the superintendent's performance and that a summative evaluation had been completed, but they agreed to postpone the contract decision until the statutory window. "We were very pleased with superintendent Bibiano's performance," one speaker said during the discussion.

No contract action was taken at the meeting; the board will revisit the contract at its March meeting. The board certified earlier in the evening that it had met in a closed executive session to discuss the superintendent's summative evaluation and that no other business or action had been taken during that closed session.

The board is scheduled to reconsider the matter at its March meeting on the stated date.
