Local volunteer urges board to open unused digital sign to community use

During the public-comment portion of the board meeting on Jan. 20, Duane Lambert, a community volunteer and Route 66 committee member, asked the board to allow the community to use an existing digital display board at the old Edgewood Elementary to post local news and announcements.
Lambert said he has volunteered at South Mountain Elementary and in local events, and that many community members were unaware of recent events such as a holiday parade. He said the sign sits at a busy intersection and is not being utilized for community outreach, and offered to serve as a liaison between the city and the school board to organize and manage community postings.
Board members thanked Lambert for the offer and for his volunteer work with students and community events; staff said they would follow up on the request.
Lambert’s comment lasted the allotted two minutes and the board acknowledged his willingness to assist.
