Sandoval dispatch reports staffing gains, training pipeline and planned certifications

Yvonne Fox, 9-1-1 director for the consolidated dispatch, briefed the governance committee on Feb. 17 about staffing, training and operational steps since the center opened.
Fox said the center will send five employees to obtain state certification within a year of hire and that two dispatcher positions were reallocated to create a supervisor position. She distributed a six‑month CAD (computer-aided dispatch) statistical report that staff said reflects cleaned call-for-service counts after removing non-service nature codes.
On staffing, Fox reported 14 dispatchers on staff and three temporary experienced employees who are used when staffing deficits occur. She said some trainees are still completing phased training: an initial 4–6 week classroom period followed by an 8–12 week trainer rotation and supervisor observation before final release to shifts.
Amber Cantrell, operations manager, and other members highlighted the center's emphasis on workplace culture to support retention. Fox and Cantrell said recognition is planned for telecommunicators (Telecommunicators Week in April) and that staff are pursuing state- and national-aligned certification pathways, including a state "cert by waiver" for some returning telecommunicators.
Mayor Bridal Ashimoto raised a resident concern about a potentially misrouted call; Fox said staff would investigate and collect the call detail after the meeting.
The operations board and governance committee will continue to coordinate on staffing levels, training cadence and operational metrics ahead of a March budget workshop.
