Selectmen appoint Historic District Commission to study Hankin House at 341 North Street

The Board of Selectmen on March 26 voted to appoint the Historic District Commission as the study committee to investigate 341 North Street (the Hankin House) for possible local historic designation.
Resident petitioner Andrew Malillo provided background on the house’s architect, John Russell Pope, and the property’s historic associations. Malillo asked the board for endorsement to forward the matter to the Historic District Commission for study. "The house is fascinating, by itself," he said, summarizing its architectural pedigree.
Selectwoman Lauren Raven moved to approve the request and Rachel Conn seconded the motion; the board approved the appointment by voice vote.
Why it matters: Formal study begins the local review process for potential historic designation, which can affect future permitting, alterations and preservation incentives. The Historic District Commission will review documentation and return recommendations as required by local process.
