Monroe Township Mayor Steven Delina urged residents to stay off township roads after a winter storm that left downed trees and power lines across the area.
"Please stay off the road, my friends," Delina said in a brief public announcement, adding that the storm has ended but municipal crews in public works, utilities and parks and recreation have been working through the night and will continue to do so.
Delina told residents there is no need to travel unless it is an emergency and said staying off roadways helps public-works crews and emergency vehicles reach affected locations. He reported that "a number of roads" in the township are closed because of downed power lines and fallen trees and described conditions as treacherous.
The mayor advised people shoveling snow to take care and not to push snow into the street. He also asked residents to move vehicles off public roads to allow plows and crews to clear routes effectively.
If power goes out, Delina said residents should contact JCP&L for service issues; the township also said it will post updates and guidance through Nixle, the community notification system.
Delina closed with an appeal for residents to "hunker down" and cooperate with crews, thanking the public and the Department of Public Works for their response efforts.
